William T. Poole has received an In-College Scholarship award for two and half years at Valdosta State University. To be eligible to receive an Air Force ROTC scholarship, the student must be a U.S. citizen, pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test and the Air Force ROTC physical fitness test; meet weight and body standards and pass a physical examination; have a 2.5 cumulative college grade point average; not already contracted to be a scholarship recipient; and other age and moral  requirements. Poole is the son of Karri D. Allman of Woodstock. He is a 2005 graduate of Sequoyah High School.

Navy Lt. j. g. Phillip S. Smith, son of Joy and S. Lewis Smith, of Acworth, recently completed the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit course at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command at Goose Creek, S. C. Smith received instruction about nuclear theory, chemistry, physics, reactor operations, safety and security. Upon completion of the course, Smith was designated a nuclear power operator. Smith is a 2001 graduate of North Cobb High School, in Kennesaw, and a 2005 graduate of Georgia Tech.

Army Pvt. Michael L. Mrozinski has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning in Columbus.  The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training. During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions.  Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. Mrozinski is the son of Lawrence and Danelle Mrozinski of Woodstock. He is a 2007 graduate of Sequoyah High School.

Navy Seaman Timothy C. Hause, son of Christine M. and Lewis C. Hause of Canton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Hause completed a variety of training, which included first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Hause is a 2000 graduate of Father Judge High School of Philadelphia, Pa.

Navy Lt. j. g. Paul C. Ritter, whose wife, Nicole, is the daughter of Tammy S. Kimsey of Milton, was recently designated a Naval Aviator while serving with Training Air Wing One, Merdian, Miss. Ritter was presented with the coveted "Wings of Gold, " marking the culmination of months of flight training. Ritter followed a training curriculum that included basic studies in engineering and navigation, training flights in simulators, aircraft familiarizations, basic and advanced instrument training, extended navigation flights, and landings and takeoffs aboard an aircraft carrier.
