Larry Lyons, 68

Larry Eugene Lyons, 68, joined his Heavenly Father on Aug. 26, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn., and is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elson Lyons.

Larry graduated from Georgia Tech with a master’s degree and was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers in Savannah, retiring in 1999. He had a great love for outdoor projects, shooting pool, saltwater fishing and NASCAR. He was also an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed many trips on his prized Harley Trike. He was a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association in Savannah.

Larry and his college sweetheart (Patty) married in 2001, after a 30-year separation. Larry was welcomed into a loving family, and he is survived by his daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law, Brian, who loved Larry like a father; and the pride of his life, grandsons Nicholas, Christopher and his little buddy Joshua. Also surviving are Betty and Terry Rader, and June Rader of Memphis, Tenn.; and very special friends, Sam Conley, Terry Stratton, Mona Blair (Buddy) and Betty Akrea. Special thanks to Dr. Graham Matthews and Nancy.

Larry was a kind and loving man, who blessed those around him. He was adored by his family and friends, and his passing has left us deeply saddened.

Funeral services were Aug. 30 at Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. David Burris officiating, and burial was at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. Woodstock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, (770) 926-3107.
